Server Maintenance Every 2nd Wednesday of the Month

red-logo-white-smallEvery 2nd Wednesday of every month, RCD Radio’s Live 24/7 Stream will go offline for scheduled maintenance.

Why?

We like to keep our servers up to date with the latest Windows Updates, as Microsoft releases updates for their operating system on every 2nd Tuesday of every month, we are doing our updates 24 hours later, why the delay? because we want to make sure Microsoft got it right, also giving them plenty of chance to release their updates.

IMG_6657How long?

We may also do some other maintenance on our server, such as a cleaning or hard drive checks, or even, hardware updates, so it all depends, but the minimum our servers will be down, is between 30 – 60 minutes, depending on how long it takes Windows Updates to install, typically, thats all we will do, if we need to do any other maintenance, we will mention on our social media pages that it may take longer than normal.

How will we know?

We will always tweet and post on Facebook, when we are about to shut off the servers for maintenance, we will also link to this blog post, explaining what it is and what we do.

t-shirt-bulk4What is effected?

Everything to do with our Live streams, including our main Live page stream and all our mobile streams, also effected, our IRC Channel Bots, such as RoBo and Jarvis, our website and other services will continue to operate as normal.

We would like to avoid these important maintenance checks on our servers, but these checks keep our servers in working perfect order for what they are used for and therefore must be done.

We Are Going HD!

hd-screenshotIt has finally happened! We are fully armed and ready to go 720p HD Live Streaming for all our shows.

Today, we are official announcing our roll out of our 720p Live streaming during our Live shows, although, since December we have been recording all out shows in 720p HD, but this is the final step to make this transition complete.

Watch one of DJ Lozo’s Mixes, from December, recorded and published to YouTube in HD to get an idea of what to expect.

DJ Lozo’s Mixes – Episode 20

pic5Some of you may be questioning, if we have gone HD, how are the listeners who’s connections can’t support 720p HD going to be able to listen and watch? Well, don’t you worry! You will still be able to watch as always in our standard definition quality that you know and love, that has not changed, we were only going to roll out HD, if we were able to stream in both 720p and in our normal quality we have always used.

Our HD feed has its own page on our website, you can find it at the address at the bottom of this post, you will be able to see everyone in the standard definition can see, the chat, other feeds and information, except your feed will be opt in to view our stream in 720p HD.

pic077The HD feed will not at this point be on 24/7, we are only rolling it out for our Live shows at the moment, we may in the future roll our a HD version of our 24/7 stream, but, one step at a time.

DJ Lozo’s Mixes, on 31st January 2016, will be our first ever show to be experienced Live in 720p HD, so make sure you join us and RSVP: http://rcdr.me/1Z6DJ4u

All New in 2016

pic077

From all of us here at RCD Radio, we would like to thank everyone who has been involved with RCD Radio in 2015, it has been a massive year for us and we are going to continue this in to 2016.

Our main highlight this year was our 26 hour broadcast we did in July, hitting our record for the most unique website visits, most people in our IRC chat at the same time and most amount of viewers watching us on our Live stream, what a exhausting 26 hour show that was, you can still watch the entire 26 hour show on our website, by going to http://july18.rcdradio.com/theshow and you can find all the highlight videos, schedule and pictures, all at http://july18.rcdradio.com

Apart from RCD Radio’s Longest Ever Radio Show, most commonly known as  July 18, our audience base has increased over the past year, with lots of new shows popping up before our summer event we did this year, unfortunately towards the end of this year, our availability has been in decline, but we should be doing a few more of these shows in the new year.

That is the past, here is what we are working on in 2016.

new-website-v2

I can reveal that in 2016, we shall be releasing a brand new website design which has been in the works since the summer of this year, brand new design that will look amazing on large monitors and TV screens, perfect so you can see more of the stream at the same time. – The image above is a little preview of the new home page.

pic5We have been working on a 720p version of our stream which works very well, unfortunately we are having to look for a new streaming service which can support multiple bit rates of our feed, we have already rolled out 720p recordings for our shows on YouTube, we hope to have our feed in 720p HD very soon in 2016 thanks to our brand new Intel Core I7 machine. – View our full studio specs at http://rcdradio.com/studio/

We hope you will continue to support RCD Radio in 2016, thank you once again for your support in 2015 and a Happy New Year to you all, see you in the new year!

iphone-stream-lock-hqEXCITING NEWS!!! YOU CAN NOW LISTEN TO RCD RADIO ON YOUR MOBILE USING OUR NEW MOBILE SITE!!!!

Mobile site can be found at http://m.rcdradio.com

Since January we have been privately testing (Not making it as public) a new RCD Radio site with a audio only feed streaming at different bit rates, over the past few days we have finally rolled out a brand new mobile site to the public with its new audio feeds.

We were first running the mobile site on a very simple HTML coded site, which only had brief information about the mobile site, buttons to select the quality and a back button, but over the weekend we finally made our brand new mobile site public.

iphone-stream-shq-show-with-lozoWe have 4 quality feeds to choose from on our mobile site, all our audio feeds are hosted on Ustream.tv, they are the same audio feed from RCD Radio, but they are at different bit rates depending on where you are listening, whether on Wifi or on a cellular network, obviously data charges still apply to your cellular network when you listen to RCD Radio on the go.

Qualities:

  • Super High Quality – Bit Rate: 192Kbps at 44100Hz
  • High Quality – Bit Rate: 128Kbps at 44100Hz
  • Medium Quality – Bit Rate: 80Kbps at 22050Hz
  • Low Quality – Bit Rate: 32Kbps at 22050Hz

studio-pic26Remember, data charges still apply to your cellular network when you listen to RCD Radio on the go.

We are still changing things with the mobile site as time goes by to make it better, we would appreciate your feedback, if you would like to see anything added, (Baring in mind it is a small and light site) you can by getting in touch with us: http://rcdradio.com/contact/

For more information on our mobile site and for the list of devices it has been tested and tried on, please visit http://rcdradio.com/mobile/

red-logo-white-smallThis blog post is to let our listeners aware that on Monday at about 1pm UK Time, the RCD Radio website will be offline for about an hour or two while we perform some essential upgrades to our Live Page.
