RCD Radio Transmission Broadcast and Recordings Test

red-logo-white-smallSome major changes have been made to the quality of our feed and how we record our shows/content, today we have performed a major broadcast tests to see what quality is best for us.

We have had to do this today due to the fact that the Rock Night broadcast, although was pretty much spot on during the broadcast from a output point of view, was terrible when we downloaded it from the VaughnLive server (The service we use to broadcast on currently) on to YouTube and the fact that DJ Lozo’s Mixes Episode 7 was not even recorded properly due to a technical fault with the server.

DSCF4501When we have streamed in the past, our past broadcasts have been downloaded from the streaming service we were using for our own archives and for YouTube, we have never done any sort of local recording and we have always had to rely on the service we are using, but from now, we will be making local recordings of our broadcasts as well as server recordings, incase our local recordings fail.

We have decreased the size of the video output for the broadcast and we are now recording the stream directly on to the streaming machine so we have a good and clear local recording for YouTube, plus if our local recording fails for what ever reason, we always have the server recording which will actually be in a better state than it was before.

DSCF4525The reason its taken us this long to sort this properly is to the fact of new equipment and experimenting with it to see what it can and can’t handle in Live streaming situations, is was not until we actually did a Live show would we know for sure what we could and could not do.

Below are 2 videos, first video is how the steam will now look when recording on the VaughnLive server (This is not what it will look like when Live, only recording, Live will look allot better)

Under the first video will be a local recording of the same stream, both videos were recorded at exactly the same time and neither video’s have been put through any movie software, this was all done Live within Telestream, Wirecast, they have come directly from where they first came from.

Lost Video and Audio from 29/11/2014 Broadcasts

DSCF4525Due to unforeseen circumstances, RCD Radio is missing video and audio footage of last nights shows on RCD Radio, such as DJ Lozo’s Mixes Episode 7 and Rock Night with DJ Luemas155 Episode 1.

DSCF4501We expected the videos to show on VaughnLive when our broadcasts had finished, but what had happened was the broadcast had lost connection, re connected to the VaughnLive servers and its believed it over wrote what had already been recorded.

This means, we only have about the last 50 minutes of Rock Night with DJ Luemas155 Episode 1, we shall try and upload this on to YouTube this week.

DJ Lozo will be doing a re record of his original broadcast, it won’t be Live, it will be recorded locally and it will then be shared on YouTube at a later date (Hopefully this week)

So if you were hoping to re watch these two broadcast, this is quite unfortunate, but we shall do our best to restore what we can, we did take allot of photo’s during the night, so these photos will appear on the appropriate pages on the site for that show, more details about that in a future blog post.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Important Facebook Only Announcement Concerning Clicking out Links via Facebook!

DJ Lozo Series 1 Pic with RCD Radio T-ShirtSo a couple of months ago, we reported on the Facebook page that there was a slight concern we needed to raise in terms of clicking out links on Facebook, I did not need to open a blog post, but I thought I would post that message on our blog, so everyone and new users of RCD Radio, are aware of what is going on with our Facebook links, this has still not been fully fixed, below I have quoted the message of what we put on the Facebook page with the link to it.

“Important Facebook Only Announcement Concerning Clicking out Links via Facebook! PLEASE READ!

Many of you have noticed that when you click our links to the rcd radio website from Facebook, you get redirected to a Malware or Spyware infected website, DO NOT CLICK OUR LINKS ON FACEBOOK! We have identified the problem earlier this evening and our webhost PhireFast Website Hosting are doing everything they can to try and rectify the problem.

Instead of clicking our links, you can either right click the link and then click “Open in new tab or window” or you can simply copy and paste the URL in to the address bar, but DO NOT CLICK THE LINKS! they redirect to some malware sites which could infect your system.

Apart from this problem, there is nothing wrong with RCD Radio website at this time and we ask that you continue to use it like normal and if you come across anything dodgy then to please contact us immediately either on our contacts page or on Facebook. – Thank you.”

Hard Drive Failures

studio-pic26Earlier this year, we experience a loss in data in one of our hard drives at RCD Radio, this was due to a electrical fault within the device, we did what we could to restore from the hard drive, but luckily, RCD Radio has backups of its music library so if anything like this was to happen, we could restore the music collection quickly and easily.

Photo on 19-11-2012 at 17.22After this hard drive failed, we had a few weeks of RCD Radio downtime, so we can set up a temp hard drive to handle our music library, we used one of our old hard drives, which has experienced no problems but was allot smaller, so we only restored music we needed for the station to co-operate with until we were in a position to invest in a new hard drive.

The time has come to upgrade after our temp hard drive has now also failed, it failed late last night, it has been playing up for a month or two, but its finally gave in.

Because this hard drive has now failed, we have now ordered its full time replacement, however, we will be unable to bring any broadcasts until this new drive has been fully reloaded of the music library and installed on to our system, this is an exciting upgrade for us, but it may take some time to build it in.

studio-pic37That is why tomorrows episode of NOW! That’s What I Call Music has been cancelled and re scheduled for 2 weeks tomorrow instead, it is also why DJ Lozo Mixes Episode 4 has also been re scheduled for 2 weeks on Saturday, even though the majority of music for this broadcast is not on the music drive, but on a MacBook Pro, we feel its only right we cancel and reschedule this broadcast to, we are still going to be without any appropriate jingles/promos.

Don’t worry, we still have full backups of the music data stored in a secret location, but it may take some time to copy everything over.

Thank you for understanding and sorry for any inconvinence, we will keep you updated on this situation on our twitter and facebook.
